Please see the links above for information that deals with 12th Grade English this year.
Our Author link will cover the authors that we read during the year, for book-length works. Short stories will be added there as needed, too. Our first book this year will be (should be!) Eager: The Surprising, Secret Life of Beavers and Why They Matter.
If something is provided for students in class, you will see it here, on the Handouts page. The newest handouts, along with the date they were provided, will be located here in case you need an additional copy.
The Writing page will cover the non-research writing that we do in class. In 12th grade, all that we will do will be college and career preparation. While there will be some "standard" or "traditional" writing to ensure students are prepared for different purposes for next year. This will include things as simple as job applications to complex technical manuals students might be expected to see in the workplace.
Research will also focus on career readiness. The final paper, due in June, will be a year-long project that expects students to not only research their preferred career, but also that they shadow a business or individual to get a feel for this future job. I have had students do this before only to find out that they really didn't want to do "that job," and changed their focus before graduation.
Finally, Quill provides excellent lessons that help students with some of the basics dealing with spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Students will be expected to complete lessons that help with their ability to complete "correct" writing, and to identify writing that includes "incorrect" work.
